Custodial Operations' mission is to deliver a clean, safe and health campus building environment through sustainable cleaning practices. Its activities will support the goals of Finance & Business's Environmental Strategy and enhance Penn State LEED efforts. Custodial Operations is committed to a sustainable campus and will adopt "green"custodial practices where possible through operations.
Custodial Operations is responsible for providing custodial services to academic, athletic and administrative facilities. Routine cleaning is scheduled once a day during one of three work shifts. Services continue to improve based on a Team Cleaning approach in order to enhance building cleanliness and maintain costs.
Custodial Operations has more than 400 technical service employees that maintain more than 260 buildings totaling 13.4 million square feet.
- First shift – 5 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
- Second shift – 5 p.m. – 1:30 a.m.
- Third shift – 10 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.
- Weekend – Saturday and Sunday, 6 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
- Late Night – Thursday-Sunday, 8 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.

Custodial Programs is designed to keep the Custodial Operations team at the forefront of technology, training and sustainability. Custodial Programs focuses on improvements to cleaning processes and schedules, products, equipment, training, quality, safety, customer care and sustainability to continuously ensure quality service for all customers across the University.
